The Eastern European countries seemed to have a passion
for rear engined cars - well at least the car manufacturers
did. From Czechoslovakia comes the Tatra 613, a rear engined
air cooled V8 saloon.
Designed by Vignale of Italy, the car was swift but quiet,
and the reported handling of the car was much improved
over its predecessor, the Tatra 603. To do this, Tatra
moved the motor further forward than was the case on the
603.
Once extremely rare, with the opening up of Eastern Europe
there are some Tatra's available and, as with any unique
vehicle, a dedicated band of enthusiasts are now preserving
the marque.
