Falcon XW Model Lineup

XW Ford Falcon

Home grown after a research, design and retooling investment of some ten million dollars. Styling has changed to a bold, action look featuring big wrap-around turn, stop and park lights that can be seen from all points of the compass.

All in all, about the only thing unchanged is Falcon's long established construction system which calls for heavier gauge than usual body metal and Ford's unique "Torque-box" chassis.

Bold New Leader In Value Packed Action

Apart from seven models and a seemingly endless list of options that let you tailor anyone of them to your own taste and pocket, the XW Falcon has made the greatest impact on the motoring public for '69 with the most significant styling and performance innovations in the medium car field.

As a result, this model is enjoying an even greater level of favourable public interest than did a previous Ford trend-setter - the "mustang-bred" XR Falcon. No less mustang-bred, the XW goes a number of big steps further with changes that are strictly Australian. Below the XW Falcon models are described in detail.

Swift, Smooth Power With Unmatched Handling-Ease

Pick any Falcon and you win for yourself a big share of all the action and know-how that puts Ford first in the world of motor sport. Putting thousands of high-pressure, competitive miles behind every Falcon is the best way of putting thousands of trouble-free, high-performance miles ahead of your Falcon. And now you'll travel those miles with even more responsiveness, more handling-ease and riding comfort.

All Falcon engines are now higher powered and have more torque for greater flexibility and response in all speed ranges. Falcon's new wider track is unmatched in its field - it brings you even greater stability, safer handling and steadier cornering under all road conditions. Wider 5-inch wheels and performanc and load-rated tires give greater traction and a smoother ride.

Transmissions

To transfer the increased power in all Falcon engines smoothly, there's a new range of transmissions. Two all-synchromesh manuals, a 3-speed column shift and a sporty four-on-the-floor. If you prefer automatic driving, you can choose from Fordomatic 3-speed, or SelectShift Cruisomatic - the automatic that works as a manual when you want it to. SelectShift Cruisomatic is available as a column shift, or in the new T-Bar floor shift, whichever you prefer.

Brakes

Braking is also a big feature of Falcon's performance. Big self adjusting 10 inch diameter drum brakes (standard on Falcon 500 and Futura) feature extra-thick bonded linings for long-life. The new front power-disc brakes (standard on Fairmont and Falcon GT) provide the ultimate in stopping power. 11 1/4 inch diameter, ventilated and Turbo-Called, and featuring floating calipers, they have exceptionally high fade-resistant characteristics. Power-assisted rear drum brakes are matched to the front disc system to provide smooth, even braking with the minimum pedal pressure.

Fairmont
High Performance Luxury

For personal comfort, there is only one option you can order that will improve things - the fully integrated air conditioning system. And that just about says it all. Fairmont was developed by Ford to provide car buyers with the opportunity to enjoy luxury, fine handling and high performance without the burden of a huge price tag.

That this was achieved is evidenced by the popularity of Fairmont over the years, and the new model is the best yet. Standard engine is a higher performing 140 horsepower "six" with 3-speed Fordomatic automatic transmission. Brakes are the new 11 1/4 -inch ventilated and Turbo-Cooled power discs that are fitted to the GT Falcon.

In action, Fairmont provides a rare degree of silence, not only through engineering refinements, but with a very generous use of sound deadening and insulating materials throughout the passenger compartment, even lining the roof. Fairmont seats are extremely comfortable and most people will happily emerge from any journey free of aches and cramps.

The individually adjustable anci fully reclining front bucket seats are standard equipment. Apart from the extra comfort option of air conditioning, there are a number of others that are concerned with appearance, power and transmissions. The complete list is shown on a following page.

Falcon 500
Modestly Priced - But No Short Change In Performance And Comfort

The "500" badge on Falcon doesn't mean a limited production model or membership of some exclusive club. Quite the contrary. Falcon 500 - a deluxe model - is rapidly growing in popularity as more people get to know it.

It's not at all unusual to find owners being extremely keen and speaking enthusiastically about strength, handling, stability, excellent performance, space, comfort and quietness.

Also, Falcon 500 lets you get into the fascinating world of virtually building your own car, according to taste and pocket, from the seemingly endless array of options. Apart from power, transmission and extra-comfort options, a Falcon 500 can become one of the sportiest cars on the road with Ford's exclusive "Grand Sport" Option Pack.

Falcon GT
A Special Sort Of Magic

As one motoring writer put it: There's a special sort of magic about this car. There is a look, a feel about Falcon GT that has a heart-pounding, pulse-quickening effect.

Ford have achieved this extraordinary car by total design, not by merely adding more power. The sum result is performance, safety and luxury that ranks Falcon GT with the world's best.

And perhaps one of its greatest compliments is that it can be happily driven by just about anyone, without intense, white-knuckle concentration, because it is so smooth, disciplined and predictable. Power is a super-high-performing 290 hp 4 barrel V8.

Transmission is a remote control, close-ratio, all-synchromesh four-on-the-floor. Braking is from fade-free power discs. Suspension is 'competition-lowered' with super-duty shock-absorbers.
