Launched in
1965 the Silver Shadow represented a massive leap forward for Rolls-Royce.
The new car had an all new, modern monocoque bodyshell, hydraulic, self levelling suspension and all round, split circuit disc brakes.
The car was powered by the Silver Cloud 6230cc V8 engine coupled to a 4 speed automatic transmission (later 3 speed).
The Silver Shadow underwent many changes during its 12 year production run, including revised suspension, interior, tires and "flared" wheel arches (the car was face lifted in
1970 and again in
1974) and many continuous minor changes.
When replaced by the Silver Shadow II in
1977 the Shadow had firmly established it self as an all time best seller for Rolls-Royce that set new standards of luxury for others to emulate.
