Best year to go Ford! Test Drive Total Performance '65
Ford wins NASCAR Manufacturer's Award of Excellence...
and the Alec Ulmann Cup...
and the NHRA manufacturer's Cup...
and the top design award from the Industrial Designers Institute
NASCAR
The NASCAR Manufacturer's Award of excellence is stock car racings way of recognizing Ford's dominance on the ovals in '64. Competition equipped Ford Galaxies won 30 Grand National races - more than twice as many as the nearest rival. Maybe they're trying to tell us the big Ford is a very tough hunk of a car. We agree.
ULMANN TROPHY
The Alec Ulmann Cup "For the Best Performance by a U.S. Engine Manufacturer in the World's Classic Endurance Road Races" highlighted GT class wins at Sebring and Le Mans for Ford-powered Cobras. Maybe they're trying to tell us the Cobra's version of the Ford V-9 outshone a lot of elegant European engines. We have to agree again.
DRAGGING - NHRA
The National Hot Rod Association Manufacturer's Cup means supremacy in the more than 50 NHRA Championship-points drag racing events, shared by specially modified Falcons, Fairlanes and Galaxies. Maybe they're trying to tell us a Ford is the shortest distance between two points when you'rre trying to get there in a hurry. Who are we to argue?
MUSTANG DESIGN
The highest award from the Industrial Designers Institute - the Bronze Medal - singles out the Mustang Hardtop for the rare praise (only four other cars have been so honored in 16 years). Maybe they're trying to tell us what the Tiffany Award told us last spring - that Mustang is a classic design. By now you may get the idea that all Fords are. Agreed!
